AI Reads Every Strand
of Your Eyebrows First
Which hairs get implanted decides the success of an eyebrow transplant. Motential analyzes the thickness and arrangement of your existing brows with AI, then selects from tens of thousands of donor hairs only those most similar to your brow hair.
Hello, I am Dr. Injae Lee of Motential, Cheongdam.
The brows of people who come to correct an awkward eyebrow transplant share something in common. Sometimes the direction is off, but the more fundamental problem is thickness. Brow hair is finer than scalp hair. Take just any hair from the donor area and you end up with scalp hair growing on the brow. From a distance it may look pleasingly dark, but up close it is the decisive reason a transplant looks transplanted.
So before extraction I analyze two things first: what thickness and arrangement your brows naturally have, and where on the back of your head the most similar hairs are. I believe the precision of this matching determines how natural an eyebrow transplant looks.
Why Eyebrow Transplants Turn Out Awkward
Brow Hair and Scalp Hair Are Different Hairs
Even on the same person, hair thickness differs by area. Scalp hair is generally thicker than brow hair, grows in multi-hair follicles, and grows at a different rate. The hard problem of eyebrow transplantation starts here — how precisely you can pick out the fine single hairs closest to brow hair.
The catch is that the difference is measured in micrometers. With the naked eye it is hard to tell precisely which donor hairs are fine and which are thick. Extracting by guesswork mixes in thick hairs and multi-hair follicles — and the result is a transplanted-looking brow.
2 Stages of AI Analysis
AI Brow Analysis — the Target, as Data
Before any implantation, we analyze your brows themselves.
- Thickness — the average diameter of your existing brow hairs sets the target thickness of hairs to implant
- Arrangement and Density — density distribution and flow direction are mapped for the head, arch and tail of the brow
- Facial Structure — AFS3D 3D analysis designs a line matched to your eyes, forehead and feature proportions
Each part of the brow has its own hair direction and angle. Upper brow hairs grow downward, lower ones upward, meeting in the middle. We record this structure as data and use it as the blueprint for implantation.
Donor μm Scan — Finding the Closest Match
Once the target numbers are set, the AI hair microscope scans the donor area.
- Hair diameter is measured in μm to locate the hairs closest to the target thickness
- Multi-hair follicles are excluded — only single-hair follicles become candidates
- Selected sites are marked before surgery, and only those follicles are extracted individually
International research is also moving toward AI trichoscopy in transplant planning, quantifying hair diameter, density and follicle structure. Motential applies this approach to donor selection for eyebrow transplants.
What AI Does, and What the Doctor Does
AI measures and short-lists candidates. But no machine can judge which line suits this face, or at what angle a hair must be placed to melt into the flow of this brow. The final design, follicle selection and the entire implantation are performed by the ABHRS-certified director. AI is a tool that raises precision; the result is made by human eyes and hands.
Naked-Eye Selection vs AI Matching
| Category | Naked-Eye Method | Motential AI Brow Analysis |
|---|---|---|
| Target Setting | Fine hair by feel | A target number measured from your brow hair diameter |
| Donor Selection | Rough selection by eye | μm scan locating hairs of similar thickness |
| Follicle Type | 2–3 hair follicles can get mixed in | Only single-hair follicles selected |
| Arrangement Design | Depends on operator experience | Area-by-area density and flow data + AFS3D structure |
| Surgeon | Often divided among staff | Director handles analysis through implantation |
